Job Title: Recycling/ Factory Operative- Job Start Programme                                  

Location: Head Office, 182-188 Cambrai Street, Belfast, BT13 3JH

Responsible To: Circular Economy\ Production Manager

Objective: Working efficiently to maximise the number of mattresses, Furniture and confidential waste bags recycled daily or working in our factory to produce products to a high standard for our customers.

Hours: 25 hours per week

Contract: Fixed Term for 6 months

Salary: £6.40 - £11.44 per hour depending on age

The JobStart Scheme is funded through Department for Communities to support people aged between 16-24 or 50-64 years old to develop their employability and occupational skills and to help them move into sustained employment after they have completed their JobStart opportunity. Those participating in JobStart will be supported through their job opportunity by Work Coaches based in the Jobs & Benefits office network, managed by the Department for Communities.

 

Job Description:

Recycling Department

  • Loading shredders, balers and lorries with various recycling products
  • Complete all daily / user operational checks on machinery used if required
  • Breaking down recycling materials into their various components for recycling paying attention to recycle as much material as possible and minimise RDF bales
  • The lifting of material around site using a fork truck if you hold a suitable licence
  • Other site housekeeping duties as required
  • Following operating procedures as per ISO 9001-2015
  • Being aware of and adhering to all Usel’s Policies and Procedures in particular to the H&S policy for the site

 

Manufacturing Department

  • Working on the assembly of component parts as part of a small team
  • Completing a range of tasks as required in the manufacturing of bags.
  • Compiling packs of forms
  • Stitching of bags using industrial sewing machines.

 

Person Specification:

Essential:

  • Aged between 16-24 or 50-64 years old
  • Currently unemployed and not in continuing education 
  • A team player with good inter-personal skills and a flexible attitude
  • Self-motivated and the ability to work effectively with minimal supervision
  • Keen to develop skills in line with the needs of a growing business
  • Demonstrate competency and safe operation of fork lifts and other machinery as and when required
  • A clear understanding of Health & Safety compliance
  • To be aware of and adhere to all Usel’s Policies and Procedures

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in the recycling industry
  • Previous experience working in a manufacturing environment.
