Community Advice Newry, Mourne and Down are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our established debt advice team to provide debt and money advice helping some of the most vulnerable in our community. Full training will be provided for the trainee position.

As a Money and Debt Adviser, you will provide our clients with clear and user-friendly advice. We’d love to hear from you whether you are just starting out on your advisory career journey or you are an experienced professional ready for a new challenge.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Money and Debt Adviser or Trainee

Purpose of Post: A money and debt adviser provides free, confidential, independent advice to clients on debt management and other financial issues

 

You will:

Be provided with all the necessary training and further development that is needed to provide holistic, professional money and debt advice

Work alongside our expert advisers to learn the skills required for the role

Learn on the job by shadowing our expert advisers and have the opportunity to ask them questions and take on case studies

Be trained to use our case management system, Advice Pro

Learn to provide money and debt advice through a range of channels including phone, digi and face-to-face settings

Learn about the industry standards and regulators

Be able to deal with a wide range of people, with different circumstances including how to deal appropriately with vulnerable clients

Begin to understand the full range of debt advice solutions and when these are appropriate for people

Understand what is meant by holistic advice and when to refer people to other sources of help

Be able to negotiate on behalf of the client and know when to challenge poor practice

Give talks and presentations to other organisations on topics such as budgeting etc

Job Specification Criteria

Education Good standard of education required

Experience Previous team working experience and worked with vulnerable clients

Previous experience working with people and have empathy and understanding

Skills Ability to understand complex information and legislation

Ability to work with figures

Ability to prioritise own workload and meet deadlines

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team

Proficient IT skills

Good interpersonal skills

Knowledge/ Confidence and the ability to deal competently with people who find themselves in Debt

Values Understanding of current advice related issues and the Voluntary Sector

Understand the principles of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

Personal attributes: Flexible approach to working hours

Friendly and approachable manner

Ability to work on a confidential basis.

Ability to work under pressure and to strict deadlines

Accuracy and attention to detail.

Salary: Starting salary is £24,000
