Library and Information Services Officer

The post holder will work as part of a team within a Learning and Information Unit to open access to success by providing a high quality, efficient and effective Library and Information Service to learners and staff.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES   

  • The post-holder will work under the direction and guidance of a Senior Library and Information Officer to provide an efficient and effective front line support enabling Learners to succeed.  

  • Key areas of responsibility in supporting the learner by;  

  • Providing Information Retrieval support  

  • Providing front line ILT Learner support 

  • Operating automated library systems 

  • Maintaining and supporting the organisation of college Library and Information collection 

  • Delivering a high quality customer service. 

  • The post-holder will form part of a front line team of Library and Information staff and will be expected to assist in the delivery of front line services including; 

  • To assist and guide learners in retrieving relevant information in print, non-print formats and information from on-line sources. 

  • To demonstrate the use of the range systems for accessing print, non-print, online resources and  

  • To demonstrate and support the use of a core range software packages and support the use of other Library and Information based learning support equipment. 

  • To provide relevant resource support for class inductions in the Library and Information Centres and provide individual induction and use assistance, guidance and demonstrations to learners in the Library and Information Centres  

  • To provide assistance in the promotion and marketing of learning resources and Library and Information services in the College 

  • To provide assistance in the compilation of learning resources book, non-book and other resources lists for learners 

  • To deal with front line learner IT/ILT support requests within Library and Information, providing assistance and guidance in the use of core software packages and systems or referring these support requests on to other  relevant support services 

  • To deal with front line learner printing and copying support within Library and Information, provide assistance and guidance in the use of these systems 

  • To keep up-to-date with relevant college IT/ILT systems and resources within Library and Information Centres to assist in the delivery of relevant services to College learners 

  • To operate the College’s automated Library Management System (LMS) with Library and Information Centres 

  • To assist in the operation of all the modules of the Library and Information CentresLMS, Circulation, Searching, Acquisitions, Cataloguing and Inventory 

  • To maintain the order and organisation of learning resources within the Library and Information Centres, to include filing, shelving, tidying, labelling and minor repair and to provide relevant input to line management on College learning resource stock 

  • To assist in compiling and maintaining current information files print or non-print to support college learners. 

  • To follow all procedures to assist in the audit all College learning resources. 

  • To handle and record receipt of all monies collected in the day-to-day operation ofLibrary and Information Services to learners 

  • To assist in the supervision of all areas and resources within Library and Information Centres 

  • To provide a welcoming approach and high quality customer service in the Library and Information Centres to college learners  

  • To provide referral to other College Support Services as required 

 

General 

  • To contribute to the achievement of the College’s mission, values and strategic directions.  

  • Participate in the Colleges performance appraisal system 

  • Participate in College developments, attend internal and external meetings and training programmes required 

  • Adhere to general standards of conduct embodied in College policies 

  • To implement and embed the College’s equality and diversity policies and respondto its equality and diversity duties as they relate to all stakeholders. 

  • Act, if directed as fire marshal or warden 

  • Carry out, if directed, the role of first aider 

  • To undertake such other relevant duties as may be reasonably expected of the post holder.
