Job Description

 

Job Title:                                        Project Support Officer

Location:                                       Hume Foundation Office Derry (and remotely as agreed with Hume Foundation)

Hours:                                           37hrs including some occasional evening and weekend work

Salary:                                            £24,496 per annum. Scale 5 NJC pay scale

Term:                                            1 year Fixed Term contract

This is an exciting opportunity for an individual interested in celebrating and continuing to the work of John and Pat Hume through the John & Pat Hume Foundation by supporting and inspiring leadership for peaceful change.

Main Responsibilities

  • Assist the Hume Foundation Secretary in the organisation and delivery of a programme of events, projects and activities as identified by the Hume Foundation Secretary and Board of Hume Foundation.  
     
  • Assist the Hume Foundation Secretary in the maintenance and development of good working relations with partners including universities, community & voluntary sectors, political parties and government departments.
     
  • Undertake and support the coordination of designated projects and events, liaising with the Foundation Secretary in order to achieve successful outcomes
     
  • Gather information to inform the evaluation of the progress and development of the Hume Foundation’s programmes and activities. Consider the reasons for examples of successful participation. Identify the barriers to successful involvement for other groups.
     
  • Assist in the coordination, the production and publication of printed/published materials including the John and Pat Hume Foundation reports, brochures and articles.

 

  • Coordinate and participate in the provision of information about Hume Foundation’s work, including responding to enquiries, distributing materials and attending conferences and other events on behalf of the Hume Foundation

 

  • Take minutes and prepare reports of meetings and events and as required.

 

 

Development Support
 

  • Assist in the co-ordination and delivery of a programme of events together with delivery partners.

Research

  • Ensure that examples of good practice and the impact of the support processes used are recorded and disseminated for use by others.
     

PR and Policy

  • Assist in the development and maintenance of the Hume Foundation website. Ensuring that it is up to date, relevant and addresses the needs of the Hume Foundation and stakeholders.
     
  • Monitor media coverage of the Hume Foundation and related work and manage clippings archive.
     
  • Develop and maintain the Hume Foundation social media presence. Ensuring that it is up to date, relevant and addresses the needs of The John and Pat Hume Foundation and stakeholders.
     
  • Make presentations about the work of the Hume Foundation to visiting groups.  Prepare presentations and talks for use with relevant diverse groups, drawing upon the existing resources of the Hume Foundation.  This includes the preparation of new materials where appropriate and necessary.
     
  • Liaise with the Hume Foundation Secretary in managing media and editing of press releases.
     
  • Ensure that the implementation of the Hume Foundation Communications Strategy supports the engagement and involvement of stakeholders and the public, where appropriate, in the work of The John and Pat Hume Foundation

 

General

  • Work across the project on the island of Ireland, the UK, Europe and the USA.
     
  • Ensure project compliance with the requirements of all funders including completion of all monitoring forms, maintenance of records and adherence to all publicity regulations. 
     
  • At all times maintain full and appropriate records for funding, administrative and accounting purposes.  Provide monthly progress reports to the Hume Foundation Secretary and Board Members.
     
  • Work as an active and integral part of the Hume Foundation Team.
     
  • Ensure all duties and responsibilities are carried out in a manner that values others and which promotes the development of the Hume Foundation’s Equal Opportunities Policy.

Short-listing Process

 

A shortlist of candidates for interview will be prepared on the basis of the information contained in the application form. 

To be considered, it is essential that all applicants demonstrate that they satisfy each of the essential criteria.  Only those candidates who fully meet the eligibility criteria will progress to the formal interview stage. 

In the event of a large number of candidates meeting the essential criteria, The Hume Foundation reserves the right to enhance the criteria.

Essential:

  • A relevant third level qualification OR 2 years community/voluntary experience
  • Experience of coordinating projects, including event management.
  • A demonstrable knowledge and understanding of political context, processes and structures relevant to Northern Ireland, on the island and UK.
  • Proven experience of working on own initiative
  • Proven experience of working with in partnership with other stakeholders
  • Experience of team support and co-ordination.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills, as well as experience of making presentations.
  • Understanding of the compliance requirements of funding bodies.
  • Commitment to the vision, aims and principles of the John and Pat Hume Foundation.
  • Competent computer skills (word processing, email, internet etc).
  • Knowledge of using online meeting platforms, Zoom/Microsoft Team. 
  • Ability to prioritise workload and work under pressure.
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends as required.
  • Possession of a current driving licence and access to a car or access to other mode of transport that will enable the postholder to carry out the duties of the post in full.

 

Summary of Main Terms and Conditions

Working hours are up to 37 per week exclusive of meal breaks.  The person appointed will be required to adopt a flexible attitude to working hours as this post may require occasional weekend and evening work.  Whilst a high percentage of work will take place in NI the successful postholder will be expected, on occasion, to travel within and across Ireland.
