HUB Youth Worker (Antrim)

Dreamscheme is hiring a Youth Worker to build intentional relationships with young people in the Antrim and lead weekly programme sessions, with a focus on the Antrim HUBs (Town Centre & Ballycraigy)
This is a perfect role for someone wanting to start or develop their youth work career, a student wanting to do important work part-time or someone with life experience who wants to use a few afternoons or evenings to invest in young people’s lives.
In your role you will help young people stay safe and out of trouble while providing positive youth development opportunities for them to:
- develop connections with peers and role models
- develop life skills and leadership capability
- develop their beliefs, values and character
- develop confidence and sense of self-worth
- contribute to their family, community and society
You will work with young people in a variety of settings as needed, including our own youth centres, local schools, and on the streets.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS
You'll need to:
Recruit and engage young people to take an active part in programme activities, including organising outreach activities on the street and at local schools
Build relationships with young people based on trust and respect, while establishing boundaries and challenging inappropriate behaviour
Assess the needs of young people to plan and deliver programmes related to key issues: e.g. mental health, relationships, choices, education and work
Deliver high-quality developmental activities: e.g. learning sessions, arts-based activities, community service, residential activities, outdoor education and sporting activities
Support local schools programme, including individual mentoring
Set targets for progression and regularly monitor and review the quality of the local youth work provision
Engage with local community by developing strong links with a wide range of stakeholders (e.g. parents, social care, police, schools, local council)
Participate in regular training and development to maintain an up-to-date knowledge of youth work practice, safeguarding, health and safety, and policy developments
Build strong and supportive team relationships with staff and volunteers
Undertake organisational tasks, including evaluation, record-keeping, writing area updates, supporting local fundraising initiatives
ABOUT YOU
You will have:
- Sympathy and buy-in to Dreamscheme ethos
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience working with young people in a relevant context
- Recognised youth work qualification or equivalent
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with young people
- Experience of effectively facilitating or leading group sessions/youth programmes and managing difficult behaviour
- Planning and organising skills, including initiative and creativity
- Track record of being a team player
- Full driving licence and use of car
You may have:
- A degree level qualification in youth work
- Knowledge of local community
- An up-to-date understanding of the issues affecting young people’s lives
- Relevant capabilities including excellent creative or sports skills
