Salary: Currently under review £51,707 to £58,127 per annum (applicants are normally appointed at the bottom of the scale) Hours: 35 hours per week (8.15am-4.30pm Mon-Thurs, 8.15am-………………………12.15pm Fri) Responsible to: CEO Objective: To work strategically as part of the Senior Leadership Team and support Usel achieving its corporate plan. This role will be responsible for overseeing Finance, Governance & Procurement. The Head of Finance Services will contribute to the strategic and operational development of the organisation.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Management:

  • Oversee the preparation of monthly management accounts and annual financial reports.
  • Manage the company's monitoring and reporting systems.
  • Monitor and interpret cash flows, predicting future trends.
  • Analyse data to support business decision-making.
  • Research and report on factors influencing business performance.
  • Develop financial management mechanisms to minimise financial risk.
  • Liaise with auditors to ensure annual monitoring is carried out.
  • Produce accurate financial reports to specific deadlines for a range of stakeholders.
  • Oversee stock control and costing.
  • Ensure compliance with regulations and legislation regarding accounting procedures.
  • Management of salary budgets and allocations
  • Completion of public sector business cases and pay award remits. 

Strategic Leadership:

  • Contribute to the development of organisational strategy, policy, and corporate decision-making.
  • Actively participate in ideas generation, problem-solving, and quality improvement activities.
  • Provide effective, supportive, and motivational leadership to staff, fostering their development.

Team Collaboration:

  • Work collaboratively with other members of the Senior Leadership Team to achieve company aims and objectives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless business operations.

Other Duties:

  • Undertake any other reasonable duties required by management from time to time.


Essential Criteri

  • Professional qualification with a relevant accounting body.
  • At least 2 years proven experience at a relevant senior and strategic level role leading and developing Finance, Procurement and Governance.
  • Strong financial acumen and analytical skills.
  • Excellent leadership and team management capabilities.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to contribute strategically to organisational development.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics finance system
  • Knowledge of Public Sector Government Accounting and governance
