 Post:                   EARLY YEARS MANAGER (TEMPORARY UNTIL DECEMBER 2019)

Hours:                 37.5 hours per week

Hourly Rate:       £12.27 per hour

Responsible to:  Project Manager

 

JOB DESCRIPTION

 

 

Purpose:        

 

  1. To lead and manage a staff team to provide a range of responsive, innovative, child centred initiatives that will promote the learning and development of all children accessing A.B.B.E.Y Sure Start services.

 

  1. To develop and manage all childcare initiatives within the project to ensure that learning opportunities are appropriate to the needs, interests and developmental stage of the children we support and to ensure that such opportunities are maximised.

 

Key Responsibilities:

           

  • To take lead responsibility in the following areas:

                                                                  

  • To take the lead in developing child centred programmes throughout the Project by identifying and articulating the needs of children both as a group and individually.

 

  • To review the planning and implementation of individual development plans.

 

  • In consultation with colleagues who are delivering programmes to identify key objectives and learning outcomes in terms of learning and development.

 

  • To monitor and evaluate, programmes in line with identified key objectives and learning outcomes.

 

  • To maintain an awareness of developments in good practice related to child development and associated learning resources/opportunities, so that appropriate and effective practices can be maintained and enhanced through supporting, advising, coaching and mentoring other staff who work directly with the children.

 

  • To carry out regular practice observations with staff; to ensure verbal and written guidance is adhered to and to develop staff practice.

 

  • To devise and deliver internal and external training to staff and other professionals.

 

  • To produce comprehensive and targeted monthly reports outlining areas of progress / concern etc.

 

           To lead regular team meetings.

 

  • To support staff to create environments that are conducive to developing the learning opportunities and skills of all the children who access programmes.
  • To monitor those environments on a regular basis to ensure they are relevant and current

 

  • To ensure that senior staff are aware of and are carrying out their duties in relation to safety and that  all childcare settings are safe and fully compliant with regulatory and organisational policies and procedures through regular onsite monitoring and via the development of an effective recording and reporting procedure

 

  • To ensure that staff develop an approach whereby each child is supported to maximise their potential for development.

 

  • To produce comprehensive guidance, both verbal and written to enable others to implement opportunities of a developmental nature for children.

 

  • To ensure staff carry out comprehensive assessments and devise learning paths that will aid development in each setting.

 

  • To be aware of and adhere to organisational and service objectives and ensure that all staff within your team also follow the same principles. 

 

  • To comply with organisational policies and procedure

 

  • To actively promote the principles of equal opportunities and working in a manner that maintains a safe, healthy and supportive environment for staff and children at all times.

 

  • To carry out all other duties consistent with the nature and grade of this post.

 

  • A commitment to your own personal development and to cascade the knowledge through informal and formal training, mentoring and good practice.

 

  • To supervise and appraise senior Early Years staff.

 

  • To manage all staff processes including – rota management, sickness recording and staff training etc

 

  • To play an active role in the Projects management team contributing to organisational planning, reviews and general management.

 

                                      

 

EARLY YEARS MANAGER

                                                  PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential Criteria

Qualifications and experience

  • Level 5 in Early Years, or equivalent, and a minimum of 2 years’ experience working in a childcare environment with responsibility for the development of programmes and initiatives to support children’s learning.
  • Experience of developing new projects and initiatives.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience of project management, including resource and people management.

Knowledge and understanding

  • Knowledge and understanding of child development
  • Knowledge of devising and implementing programmes
  • Knowledge of observing and planning for the individual needs of children
  • Knowledge and understanding of evaluating practice
  • To be aware of and understand safeguarding procedures

 

Skills and abilities                                            

  • Ability to demonstrate an understanding of the needs of young children
  • Good listening and communication skills
  • Ability to manage staff and to deal with difficult issues effectively if and when they arise
  •  Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to produce accurate and comprehensive reports.
  • It is essential that the person meets the travel requirements of this post. It will involve travelling within the A.B.B.E.Y. Sure Start area.

 

Desirable Criteria

  • An understanding of the DE developmental programme for 2-3 year olds
  • Recognised first aid qualification
  • Experience in developing and delivering training
