Deputy Manager

The Deputy Manager will support the work of the Hostel Manager, to manage the Hostel site and management, whilst growing the sales and overnight accommodation of the Hostel in the local area. This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in an organisation that provides experiences and opportunities through hostelling activities and community engagement.
- To assist the Hostel Manager with all guest bookings, including group bookings, providing excellent customer service.
- To deputise for the Hostel Manager when required and assist the Hostel Manager in site management, including maintenance of health and safety regulations, risk assessment, safeguarding, fire safety and property maintenance.
- To ensure the management of staff teams/staff rotas, including ‘Hostel Assistants & House Keepers’ and temporary/casual staff members through line management, including the management of breaks under work time directives.
- To ensure Hostel cover of staff over 24-hour periods including weekends and management of staff rotas including the planning of staff members' annual leave.
- To assist the Manager in the management of HINI’s ‘Front Desk Master’ booking engine, including direct engagement with customers and group bookings.
- To ensure a high level of cleanliness throughout the accommodation on a daily/weekly basis ensuring all bedrooms and bed linen are maintained and all rooms are cleaned in all guest areas, rooms and back of house.
- To ensure all laundry duties are carried out to a high standard including sorting, washing, drying, pressing and folding bed linen and other textile items including the removal of stains from items using appropriate materials and procedures following all safety and sanitation practices.
- To ensure the maintenance of laundry equipment and other duties of laundry equipment.
- To ensure the laundry inventory is updated on a daily/weekly basis and track any maintenance of equipment ensuring all equipment is always cleaned.
- To ensure the Hostel inventory is updated and reviewed yearly.
- To assist the Manager in financial budget management, cash flow analysis including financial forecasting and yearly projection of overnight targets.
- To assist the Manager in opportunities for organisational growth and development including potential expansion and development within the Hostel accommodation and grounds within the property.
- To participate in regular line management meetings, reporting to the Hostel Manager on organisational work plan including yearly targets against work streams and timelines.
- To assist the Manager in the engagement with local community and voluntary groups, businesses and stakeholders.
- To assist the Manager in maintaining and identifying new marketing and business strategies including the use of social media platforms to maximise income revenue and expenditure management.
- Perform any other reasonable duties and tasks associated with Hostel Manager including weekend shifts when necessary.
- To ensure branding guidelines are followed and implemented.
- Comply with all HINI policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Two-year fixed-term contract NJC Scale 5 point 13 £28,163 pro rata with possible extension of permanent contract subject to funding requirements.
- Annual Leave entitlement based on pro rata basis plus 10 recognised statutory holidays.
- Core contracted hours: 30 – 35 hours per week Monday to Sunday, including weekends and nighttime duties.
- Location – The role is based at Whitepark Bay Hostel, 157 Whitepark Rd, Ballintoy, Ballycastle BT54 6NH.
