Constituency Assistant / Caseworker

The successful applicant will be supporting Mr Stephen Dunne MLA within his North Down constituency office, and in particular dealing with enquires / casework from members of the public, on a wide range of issues coming to his Office.
£17.37 per hour
24 hours per week
Responsibilities
- Responding to correspondence and enquiries from constituents on Casework, i.e providing information/advice to constituents on a range of issues including, Housing, Welfare, Health, Roads Issues, Council issues, local services etc.
- Managing and progressing portfolio of casework appropriately including through incoming phone calls, emails and face to face enquiries, updating/maintaining IT databases.
- Ensuring enquiries are dealt with sensitively and confidentially.
- Gathering relevant information and research to assist with resolving cases and supporting MLA.
- Attending meetings/conferences and training sessions as required.
- Organising and providing secretarial support and diary management.
- Distributing communication and information on behalf of the MLA.
- Developing engagement and outreach opportunities, and may include travelling across Constituency.
- Working as part of a team to resolve cases/progress issues on behalf of local constituents in support of the MLA.
- Liaise and engage with local community groups / key contacts in community who require support.
- Assisting in preparation for visits, events and meetings, and supporting the MLA in those meetings as required.
- Keep up to date with funding opportunities and assist various groups when necessary.
- Retaining records and information confidentially and in line with the Data Protection Act and GDPR.
- Other duties as required in support of the MLA carrying out their duties.
Essential Criteria
- Applicants must have experience within a busy public facing office environment.
- Experience in providing general administrative support.
- Must have a working knowledge of IT/ Microsoft Office, Outlook/Emails etc.
- Must have working knowledge of politics in Northern Ireland
- Third level degree qualification
- Demonstrate an ability to work from own initiative and see tasks through to conclusion.
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of GDPR.
Desirable Criteria
- Excellent problem solving, communication skills and time management.
- Good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise, and experience working as a team member.
- Awareness of local issues within North Down and political awareness.
