Purpose is to support, strengthen & connect the community sector in East Belfast so that it has the capacity to 1-Develop & maintain community spirit through challenging times 2-Address the impact of poverty on local people & develop a collective voice
This is one of two posts within the Community Connections Programme. The post holders will be community development practitioners who will support and coordinate local action and local leadership
The posts are relationship based – connecting people in neighbourhoods across East Belfast with each other and with voluntary service providers and statutory agencies.
The 2 post holders will work together across East Belfast. One will focus on poverty and vulnerability with this post focusing on inclusion and diversity.
The role of this post will be to:
- Develop relationships in each community and identify an overview of their needs, issues, capacity, and current activities.
- Gather, update, and share information on services and activities across East Belfast and be an accessible and available knowledge point for residents’ groups and local organisations on poverty and vulnerability work.
- Support a network to enable those working to alleviate on poverty and vulnerability to collaborate and coordinate their efforts; initiate events and training to raise awareness of poverty and vulnerability issues in local communities; build a collective voice and response plan to ensure that communities have a say in how public agencies and government address this crisis.
- Support existing networks including the Community Development Café, and new initiatives to support and connect volunteers.
- Identify the training needs of new and established residents’ groups and support them to access appropriate training on community development, governance, managing financial resources and supporting volunteers.
- Work with other within EBCDA to support potential and emerging community leaders focusing on poverty and vulnerability.
- Support the development of a new generation of emerging young local leaders and support their participation in a leadership training programme to build their confidence and competence in communication and their knowledge of social policy and local groups, activity, service provision in East Belfast.
- Work with the Diversity & Inclusion Co-Ordinator to implement a simple measure to monitor the participation of local people in community action, volunteering, training, and events.
