Annadale and Haywood Residents Association are seeking new members of the board, namely the roles of Chairperson, Secretary and Treasurer to oversee the functioning and management of Annadale Community Centre.

Remuneration: Voluntary role

Time commitment: Varied, minimum of four hours per month

Location: Annadale Community Centre, 49 Delhi Parade, Belfast, BT7 3AU

Chairperson

Role: To oversee the functioning and managing of Annadale Community Centre

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide support and supervision to charity employees

The Chairperson will work with staff, in particular Management, to provide direction and to make sound decisions, for example, on organisational policies, strategic plans and how best the organisation can work towards its mission and purpose.

  • Ensure the Management Committee functions properly

The Chairperson is responsible for managing the Committee as laid out in the constitution, including organising Committee meetings, holding responsibility for the organisation and execution of AGMs and reviewing Committee performance.

  • Be a trusted, ethical and professional representative of AHRA and the centre in the community and the sector

the Chairperson may occasionally be required to represent the organisation and serve as its spokesperson at events, meetings, or other functions.

What We’re Looking For:

  • A strong commitment to the charity and community centre’s values and aims
  • Skills or experience in one or more of the following: governance, finance, HR and/or charity management
  • Excellent communication and team-work abilities
  • Flexible on availability to meet the needs of the organisation as and when required

 

 

 

 

Secretary

Role: to support the Chair in ensuring the smooth functioning of the Management Committee.

  • Organising and Recording Meetings

Duties including collaborating with the Chair to plan meetings, distributing agendas and reports and taking minutes.

  • Ensuring Legal Compliance

Alongside the Chairperson, the Secretary will act as custodian of the organisation’s governing documents and ensure AHRA are meeting charity and company law requirements.

  • Managing Communication and Correspondence

It is the responsibility of the Secretary to oversee all committee correspondence, communications and prepare an annual report on the organisation’s activities for the AGM and Charity Commission NI.

  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Experience in administration, governance, or record-keeping
  • Ability to manage correspondence and maintain accurate records
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with the Chair and committee members
  • A commitment to the charity and community centre’s values and objectives
  • Flexibility to meet the organisation’s needs as required

Treasurer

Role: oversee all aspects of financial management, working closely with other members of the Committee to safeguard the organisation’s finances.

  • General financial oversight

The Treasurer oversees and present budgets, accounts and financial statements to the management committee, liaises with designated staff about financial matters and ensures compliance with relevant legislation and funder requirements.

  • Funding, fundraising and sales

Duties including advising on the organisation’s fundraising strategy and ensure fundraising and sales complies with relevant legislation and is bound by effective financial systems and controls.

  • Financial reporting

It is the Treasurer’s responsibility to present accounts at the AGM and oversee account administration in line with the Charity Commission NI’s requirements, including annual accounts.
 

  • Banking, book-keeping and record-keeping
    This role involves overseeing staff management of bank accounts, financial record keeping and spending.

 

What We’re Looking For:

  • Strong financial management skills, with experience in budgeting, accounting, or financial oversight
  • Attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate financial records
  • Knowledge of financial regulations, charity finance, or fundraising compliance
  • Ability to present financial information clearly to the management committee and stakeholders
  • A commitment to the charity and community centre’s values and objectives
  • Flexibility to meet the organisation’s financial needs as required
