Casework & Communications Officer

Temporary 1 year position with potential to be made permanent. Job shares may be considered if it meets the needs of the MLA.
Located in Constituency office – 977 Upper Newtownards Road, Dundonald, BT16 1RL with attendance at Parliament Buildings, Stormont as required.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Providing information/advice to constituents on a range of issues including, Housing, Welfare and Health, funding and undertaking any research or correspondence as may be necessary to progress this casework, ensuring all such enquiries are handled with appropriate sensitivity and confidentiality.
Responding to correspondence and enquiries from constituents, the media, lobbyists and pressure groups.
Maintaining up to date knowledge on relevant legislation, policy and wider political developments.
Manage and monitor incoming calls, emails and enquiries, ensuring they are prioritised and responded to effectively and appropriately.
Maintaining/updating IT databases and retaining, as necessary, records and information in line with GDPR and Data Protection principles.
Assisting in preparation for visits, events and meetings, and supporting the MLA in those meetings as required.
Attending meetings, conferences, constituency surgeries and training sessions as required.
Supporting communication of the MLAs work to constituents through a range of appropriate channels from social media, emails, online content or letters.
Develop and deliver Communications Plans.
Identifying and responding to media and press opportunities including replies to queries and the pro-active drafting of statements.
Engaging and building relationships with various groups, representatives, statutory organisations and Non-Governmental Organisations including attending meetings and conferences.
Other duties as required in support of the MLA carrying out their Assembly and constituency duties.
Essential Criteria
Applicants must:-
Have a 3rd level education or 2 years minimum experience within a constituency office environment.
Have a strong knowledge and understanding of local government and the Northern Ireland Assembly.
Have a working knowledge of Microsoft office, Outlook/Emails etc.
Demonstrate strong problem solving and communication skills.
Have good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise.
Have the ability to work from own initiative and see tasks through to a conclusion.
Demonstrate a working knowledge of GDPR.
Desirable Criteria
A strong awareness of local issues within the East Belfast constituency.
A strong understanding and/or experience of working with the local community sector.
