Supporting Women in Derry and Strabane through and beyond the Criminal Justice System

Course Details:
The programme aims to support community-based service providers in the Derry and Strabane areas to enhance their knowledge, skills, and understanding to more effectively meet the needs of women involved in the criminal justice system, with whom they work, and who use their services.
Throughout the course, participants will;
- increase understanding of women’s offending and the importance of a gender-responsive approach;
- be better informed about how the criminal justice system operates and the range of agencies involved;
- better understand how sentencing impacts women;
- plan effective collaborative approaches to meet the needs of women with lived experience of the criminal justice system.
The course includes a visit to Hydebank Women’s Prison to meet and hear perspectives on supporting women in custody from NI Prison Service officers and visitor centre staff.
The course is delivered over 5 weeks on Wednesdays from 10am - 3pm and also includes small group tutorials.
