This 3-day accredited course will empower existing advisers with a deeper level understanding of the main benefits contested at appeal, alongside a focus on case building, evidence gathering, submission writing and advocacy skills so that they may begin to represent clients at Tribunal.

 It will include detail on:

  • An expert level focus on PIP, The Regulations, Case law, Assessment Guidance and how to formulate entitlement arguments to Tribunal Level (Day 1)
  • As above for ESA and UC LCW&WRA and general Universal Credit subject matter most commonly contested. (Day 2)
  • Case Building, Evidence Gathering, Submission Writing and Focusing on Advocacy Skills, Tribunal Procedure and preparing your client to give evidence. (Day 3)

It is a three day course with written assignments thereafter, accreditation of which enables Advisers to meet the Northern Ireland Advice Quality Standard minimum training requirements for Tribunal Representatives. 

Who Should Attend

This course is best suited to existing Advisers who wish to develop their knowledge and skills as a tribunal representative so that they may challenge decisions at MR, Tribunal and onwards to Commissioner.

Accreditation

The Level 4 course is endorsed by Open College Network Northern Ireland (OCNNI). Successful completion of this course and the required assignment are worth 5 Credits at Level 4.

The OCNNI registration and certification fee is included in the cost of the course.

Professional Framework

This accredited course enables Advisers to meet the Northern Ireland Advice Quality Standard minimum training requirements to become a Tribunal Representative. It links to a range of National Occupational Standards for Legal Advisers including:

SFJDA7 - Prepare cases for representation in formal proceedings

SFJDA4 - Represent clients in formal proceedings

SFJIA5 - Research legal information and advice using electronic sources
