Northern Ireland’s National Srebrenica Memorial Interfaith Walk: Together we are one.

NI Muslim Family Association (NIMFA)

This is a free event
Fifty years after the world said “Never Again” to the horrors of the Holocaust, genocide took place on European soil. The name Srebrenica has become synonymous with those dark days in July 1995 when, in the first ever United Nations declared safe area, thousands of men and boys were systematically murdered and buried in mass graves. The victims, who were Muslim, were selected for death on the basis of their identity. This was the worst atrocity on European soil since the Second World War. When we commemorate genocide, we usually focus on the very darkest aspects of human nature. We ask ourselves why. Why do people hate? Why do people rape? Why do people kill? We should also ask: How do people survive? How do people hold hope? How do people resist?

You have been invited to Northern Ireland’s National Srebrenica Memorial Interfaith Walk:

Venue: Walk from Northern Ireland Muslim Family Association (NIMFA) to St Annes Cathedral.

The Srebrenica Genocide is the worst atrocity on European soil since the second world war in which over 8000 mainly Muslim men and boys were systematically murdered just in the town of Srebrenica in Bosnia simply because of their Muslim identity, close to 100,000 people were killed across the whole country, over 2.2 million people were displaced and, between 20,000-50,000 women were raped as part of the systematic campaign of ethnic cleansing and genocide enacted by Serb forces.
