CB Training Services

Cost: £40 per person with a discount for Community NI members - please quote Community NI if booking.
The menopause is not just a gender or age issue – it can impact all staff directly or indirectly, and it should be considered an organisational issue. As such, managers need to know about it and they need to know how they can support their staff.

“In the UK alone, more than 900,000 women are estimated to have left the workforce early because of the menopause - at an age when their talent, skills and experience are most valuable.”

The menopause is not just a gender or age issue – it can impact all staff directly or indirectly, and it should be considered an organisational issue. As such, managers need to know about it and they need to know how they can support their staff.

The menopause can have a massive impact on the lives of employees and, as such, have a negative impact on performance and attendance at work. Some symptoms can last for several years – these include anxiety, reduced concentration, sleep disturbance, hot flushes and heavy periods. The psychological effects of menopause can also impact relationships in the workplace. Symptoms can be so severe for some people that they need to take time off or even leave their job altogether. The most worrying thing is that they feel unable to talk openly about this to their Line Manager.

Organisations need to treat the menopause as they would any other health issue. We need to break the stigma and taboo surrounding the menopause at work, and we need to create an inclusive environment where employees and managers feel able to discuss any reasonable adjustments that may be needed.

CB Training have developed a short course for managers to help them do this. During this programme, participants will :

  • Understand what menopause and peri-menopause are
  • Discuss the different ways menopause can affect people
  • Recognise why menopause is a workplace issue
  • Identify legislation within which menopause falls and review relevant case studies
  • Discuss the results of the Congress of Trade Union survey
  • Examine why we are starting to talk about menopause more
  • Consider the ways in which Managers should be supporting staff affected by the menopause
  • Action Plan for the needs of your organisation

Costs: This programme, delivered over zoom, costs £40 per person (no VAT) and participants will receive a certificate of attendance for their CPD records. For further information, or to book places, please contact Caroline at [email protected]
