Meet the Information Commissioner
NICVA
You will hear directly from The UK Information Commissioner John Edwards about how the ICO is working to help organisations within the voluntary and community sector meet their data protection obligations, during this difficult time of reduced budgets and the cost-of-living crisis.
You will also learn more about data protection and how the ICO can support you with their easy to understand guidance and resources.
You will have the opportunity to meet ICO staff based in the Belfast office who can help with any questions you may have on data protection. The ICO is also keen to hear from you about what additional support you would like to see.
Who is it for?
The event is open to anyone in the Voluntary and Community Sector. This may include those who want to learn about data protection and what it means for their work, and those who may have some experience of data protection and want to refresh their knowledge. Everyone is welcome.
Content
Session 1: John Edwards, The Information Commissioner
At this session The Information Commissioner will:
- Provide an outline of the ICO commitments as part of their new three-year strategic plan.
- Highlight how the ICO is working to support the Voluntary and Community sector to protect the personal data of the most vulnerable and underrepresented groups in our society.
- Invite comments from attendees on the data protection issues and challenges they face in their day-to-day work
Session 2: Group Discussion
Drawing upon comments raised with the Information Commissioner, this session provides a further opportunity to discuss them in more depth. This will be used to inform content/topics of sessions to come later in the year.
Session 3: Data Protection for the Voluntary and Community Sector.
At this session staff from the ICO's Belfast office will:
- Deliver an introductory/refresher session on data protection for attendees.
- Provide an overview of the ICO's recently updated SME hub and other resources to help charities comply with Data Protection requirements.
- Signpost to new ICO training resources.
