Poverty is a result of systemic economic inequalities with crippling consequences that rob the individual of their right to self-determination and the opportunity to make their contribution to society. The webinar will discuss the links between poverty and other concepts such as human rights and citizenship.
Our fifth inspirational speaker is Ruth Lister (Baroness Lister of Burtersett) is a member of the House of Lords and Emeritus Professor of Social Policy, Loughborough University. She is a former Director of the Child Poverty Action Group and is now its honorary president. She has sat on various commissions including the Opsahl Commission on Northern Ireland. Her latest publication is the 2nd edition of Poverty (Polity, 2021).
