Hearing Link Mindfulness Walk on Cavehill

Hearing Link is hosting a Mindfulness Walk, on the beautiful Cavehill in Belfast. This is part of the Connect Hear Northern Project, funded by the Big Lottery Community Fund.

This walk will be held on Friday 10th May as part of Deaf Awareness Week from 11am to approximately 1pm.

We will meet at Belfast Castle (outside main door to castle) from 10.45am and set off after a short introduction at 11am. You will be asked to sign-in, acknowledging that you deem yourself physically fit enough to participate. The walk will be approximately 1.5 miles and will not be very strenuous.

The Cavehill hosts some of the most beautiful trail paths in Northern Ireland. Terrain will be a mixture of tarmac, gravel path and some grassy sections.

Be sure to wear appropriate clothing and footwear and keep an eye on the weather forecast in case a raincoat is required. Please also ensure you bring a bottle of water if you feel you will need it and of course take all your empties back with you.

The purpose of this walk is to bring people with hearing loss (family and friends also welcome) together to focus on using other senses to appreciate the beauty, the colours, the smells and the feel of the world around us.

You may also appreciate the taste of a cup of coffee and a slice of cake in the coffee shop afterwards.

This walk is not suitable for anyone under the age of 18 and we would ask you not to bring pets with the exception of assistant dogs. This is so we can keep noise levels to a minimum.

There is no communication support as we intend to walk in as close to silence as possible. Any chat over coffee will just be relaxed and informal.

We hope this walking event will be the first of many organised walks for people with hearing loss, throughout Northern Ireland and the rest of the UK.
