Gems of the Mournes

You will experience some of the most beautiful scenery the Mournes has to offer. Starting at Meelmore lodge, we will follow the Trassey River which leads us up to Hare's Gap. From there we start our climb up the amazing Slieve Bearnagh. Once summited, we will continue our journey, passing the feet of Slieve Meelmore & Meelbeg, heading south into the heart of the Mournes, Doan. Taking in the 360 views from Doan and overlooking Lough Shannagh, we then proceed North West picking up the Mourne Way which takes us past Fofanny Dam and back to our starting point at Meelmore Lodge for some catchup and refreshments.

Distance – 8-10 miles (approximate)

Duration – 5-6 hours (approximate)

Please note: This is graded as a Moderate walk- suitable for people with country walking experience and a good level of fitness. May include some steep paths and open country. Walking boots are essential.  This trek is not recommended for those under 18 but children aged 16-17 years and accompanied by an adult may take part.

Registration fee includes services of experienced guide throughout the trek, insurance, post-trek refreshments at Meelmore Lodge & Nexus t-shirt!
