A budget isn't just for Christmas!

Money Guiders NI Network
This session will focus on information around high-cost short-term credit and what to be aware of when borrowing money. We will have a walkthrough of the Consumer Councils budget planner - helping to support finances into the New Year!
You will be provided with information on their true cost campaign which helps to offer guidance in understanding the true cost of borrowing money. This will lead on to some case studies from the Consumer Councils research reports giving insight to the affect borrowing can have.
This session will cover a wealth of topics that will be useful for you to be aware off when supporting money guidance queries from your service users!
About the organisation
The Consumer Council NI provide free, independent support and advice for all consumers and businesses in Northern Ireland. We also have powers to investigate complaints about energy, water, transport and postal services and undertake research to understand local consumer issues.
Who should attend?
All money guidance practitioners are welcome to attend this free event. This could include staff across Northern Ireland who are supporting service users with diffcult conversations and anyone offering guidance to improve the financial wellbeing of the users of their service.
The Money Guidance Competency Framework
This event is designed to help you improve your money guidance practice, developing skills, confidence and knowledge around a specific money related area. Everything that the Money Guiders programme offers centres around the Money Guidance Competency Framework - it's there to help you better understand the full breadth and depth of money related issues that fall outside of the regulated financial advice service sector - the things you talk to your customers about.
Which part of the competency framework applies to the event?
Borrowing Technical Domain 3: Tier 1 raising awareness high-cost short-term credit
Budgeting and Cashflow Technical Domain 5: including Tier 1 and Tier 2. Click here for full details.
Foundation Level - Signposting customers: all practitioners – no matter their job role – must be able to elicit simple, factual information from the customer in order to signpost them to appropriate sources of further support, advice or information.
Before attending this session, you could spend some time considering the challenges you face in your work, specifically when you provide help and guidance to your clients or service users around money issues.
