CommunityAPI [PILOT]

CommunityAPI is a NICVA project running on the CommunityNI platform.  

The pilot provides a directory of health & wellbeing services provided by Charities, Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise organisations in North Belfast.    

Along with sourcing information on services in the area, the pilot project aims to research the opportunities and challenges associated with sustaining and sharing information about service on Open Data infrastructure for public good principles.  

The project has been supported by the Department for Communities (Northern Ireland) along with insights and expertise from the Healthy North Belfast (Appreciative Inquiry) Task Group members.

Service Information has been sourced from:

• Public information including organisation websites, social media pages and Charity Commission Data
• Organisations that already use CommunityNI to promote their organisation's activities and advertise job and volunteer opportunities

Service information will be sustained by:

• Organisations themselves through their organisation dashboard
• NICVA projects to enrich and maintain information 

[Coming Soon] - Service and activity information is shared as Open Data.  Organisations will be able to extract data for their own purposes via:

• Table downloads (CSV)
• API Endpoints (Application Programming Interface) – real time standards based machine readable information

• Administrative boundary data eg Wards, Constituencies, Super Output Areas, Health Trust boundaries
• Location / Address finder - premises point service
• search development inc synonyms - did you mean, professional and common use terms
• keyword automation - machine learning / parsing of organisation and service data

Platform

• Streamline registration processes
• Security roles and API permissions rollout

Promotion

• targeted campaign to North Belfast organisations and key stakeholders
• wider campaign using all digital channels and networks

Engagement

• further engagement with providers, networks and stakeholders
• other directory providers and interested parties
• open data NI and wider national open data initiatives
• tech sector > pilot API project(s)
