Copius Gift Aid

United Kingdom

Gift Aid is a policy that enables tax effective giving by individuals to charities and Community Amateur Sports Clubs (CASCs) in the United Kingdom. Gift Aid therefore increases the value of donations to charities and CASCs by allowing them to reclaim basic rate tax on any gift or donation. Any charity or CASC is entitled to recover 28.2 % (this will change in April 2011 to 25%). Unfortunately, many community and voluntary organisations find it difficult to take advantage of Gift Aid through the donations they receive; the Copius Gift Aid Management arm of the Copius Group is therefore designed to support community organisations and smaller charities to take full advantage of these financial benefits. Through the gift aid management we can help secure your Gift Aid allocation dating back up to 4 years, and can help to structure your fundraising to make it much easier to avail of Gift Aid in the future. Copius believe that it is better for you to have the 28% in your company account rather than in the Inland Revenues account.

What is the Scheme?

As part of the Copius Priority Club, we have set up a friends and family scheme which entails a monthly club fundraising initiative that will take advantage of Gift Aid. The club signs up players, participants and spectators etc, to a minimum of 50 donations at £5, £10 or £20 per month - replacing your typical ballots, sweeps, lotteries and prize draws. As a result, if 200 members signed up to pay £5 per month (£12,000 per annum), the direct return to the Club via Gift Aid would be approximately £3,360.

So How Does it Work?

To take advantage of Gift Aid, your club needs to have a charitable arm or to be recognised as an organisation with charitable aims and objectives. You then decide on the monthly amount for individuals (£5, £10, £15, £20) and the monthly amount you would like companies to pay (£20, £30, £40, £50). We prepare the standing order mandates and once you have a minimum of 50 donations signed up, we get your monthly scheme established.

Gift Aid Return

Copius Priority Club will manage every aspect of the scheme, including all administration, credit control and the return to the Inland Revenue. In order to claim your Gift Aid, Copius Priority Club must provide evidence of every payment (including dates) from every individual to the Inland Revenue. We need to provide evidence of the 2400 transactions every year (based on 200 individuals giving monthly donations). You then avail of the 28.2% Gift Aid from Inland Revenue. Simple!
