Training and Support Programme for Carers

Marie Curie

Marie Curie

Are you caring for someone with a terminal or life limiting illness? We are looking for participants to take part in a pilot programme to evaluate new training and support for carers.

This programme will support you in your role caring for your loved one by increasing your knowledge, skills and confidence.  You will meet other people in the same situation as you, learning from each other by sharing stories and experiences.

This programme will be delivered through a computer so you don’t even have to leave your home!  If you require any equipment this will be supplied and you will be supported with the technology every step of the way!

Each person will have different needs but there may be areas where training could be provided which will meet the needs of many carers. We will involve you in deciding what training would be helpful.

Among the topics which could be covered are:

•             Advice and support services available

•             Preparing for a caring role

•             Symptom management

•             Personal Care

•             Spotting deterioration

•             Dealing with medication

•             Psychological support - stress management, coping strategies for anxiety

•             Self-care for the carer - nutrition, exercise, sleep.

The programme will run until the end of March 2016. The sessions will last between 60 and 90 minutes.

We hope you will find the programme helpful and we will also want to find out if this model could be developed further to support more carers.

If you wish to participate in the pilot please complete the expression of interest from and return to Ciara McClements at [email protected] .

Please feel free to call 02890882081/ 07872423565 if you require any further information.
