In November Homely Planet started broadcasting programmes produced by Cavan Community Radio (CCR) through a new partnership with

CCR and Craigavon Intercultural Programme. The partnership plans to use radio as a tool for various projects aimed at assisting cultural relations and education.  “Cavan Community Radio is a non-political, non-sectarian Association. The main object is to operate a community based radio station in Cavan Town and its surrounding areas which is established to enhance the community of Cavan town and its environs, recognising and promoting the richness in the diversity of this community by providing access to all groups in the community, promoting inclusion and active citizenship through participation training and development.

All programs are made by community volunteer broadcasters. We are delighted to be part of Homely Planet Radio programming.” (Eimear Crowe, Coordinator, CCR) "We are delighted with the radio development that has resulted from a cross border exchange project that linked Craigavon Intercultural Programme with Cavan Community Network. The radio project is one of a number of partnership projects that we are developing and we are excited with the relationship and and possibilities that now exist through our links with Homely Planet.” (Stephen Smith Project Coordinator).

In addition to this Homely Planet will start to broadcast programmes recorded around the world with over 15 global partners through the United Network of Young Peacebulders and through a unique project developed by Beyond Skin and The Music Project (Sri Lanka).

'Parallel Versing' is a new innovative creative technique developed by Beyond Skin and The Music Project (Sri Lanka) to create shared audio productions by schools and youth groups on opposite sides of the world. Newtownbreda High School in Northern Ireland will be the first to take part in the programme in partnership with schools in Kurunegala and Thunukkai (Sri Lanka).

2013 will see an exciting new era for Homely Planet; one that will provide new opportunities for people in Northern Ireland to connect with others around the world.

One of our new radio volunteers, Claire Whelan said “Having recently started volunteering with Beyond Skin, I am excited by the opportunities these new global partnerships present. I have already been involved in some great events, and am really looking forward to the projects coming up over the next few months.”
