Opportunities to recognise your volunteers

Dame Mary Peters is joining with Volunteer Now to raise the profile of two Awards that recognise volunteering by inviting you to an event on 28 June 2012, 2.30pm-4.00pm in Volunteer Now offices at 34 Shaftesbury Square, Belfast, BT2 7DB.

The Queen's Award for Voluntary Service is the highest Award given to local volunteer groups across the UK to recognise outstanding work done in their own communities.  It was created in 2002 to celebrate the anniversary of the Queen's coronation.  It is the MBE for volunteer groups.  Any group doing volunteer work that provides a social, economic or environmental service to the local community can be nominated for the Award.  Each group is assessed on the benefit it brings to the local community and its standing within that community.  Volunteer Now has been represented on the local Assessment Panel since the Award was established and is delighted that Dame Mary will attend this event to tell you more about it.

You will also hear about a second Award that has just been launched.  In celebration of the 10th Anniversary of the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service, a further element to mark Her Majesty's Diamond Jubilee has been introduced - namely The Queen's Diamond Jubilee Volunteering Award for 2012.  This Award is for national organisations, rather than local groups, including those organisations involved in Olympic and Paralympic games volunteering and its legacy.

Applications are now open for both Awards.  This event is a good opportunity to learn how you can apply for either Award and recognise your volunteers.

Please let us know if you are able to come by emailing [email protected] or 028 9081 8316 by 26 June 2012.
