John Muir Award training

The John Muir Award is a well recognised scheme which encourages young people to explore and enjoy wild places. These do not have to be on the tops of mountains, it could be a local park, river or derelict site everyone ignores.

John Muir Award Training  This one-day (10.30-17.00) course gives an introduction to the relevant skills, knowledge and approaches needed for delivering the John Muir Award.  The John Muir Award is suitable from upper primary school level.

The John Muir Award  The John Muir Award is a national environmental Award scheme focused on wild places. It encourages people to enjoy, connect with, and care for the natural environment. www.johnmuiraward.org

What is the John Muir Award all about?  The John Muir Award aims to encourage people to experience and enjoy wild places, and to take some responsibility for your own environment.  It is a flexible scheme, which offers a focus for a wide range of outdoor, environmental, and personal development activities.

Aims of training day  To give training participants a thorough introduction to relevant skills, knowledge and approaches needed for delivering the John Muir Award scheme. This will include:

Explore and understand John Muir Award criteria - schools curriculum/youth work

  • Review and highlight existing Award activity
  • Participate in a range of outdoor activities
  • Find out more about John Muir & the John Muir Trust
  • Plan for future delivery of Award

Notes… Training will take place both indoors and outside (please come prepared).

Preparation can involve looking at the Information Handbook in the ‘Resources’ section of www.johnmuiraward.org  Lunch is provided but you will need to bring your own snacks..  Venue: c/o Cloughmills Community Action Team
