The Comber Foundation celebrates 21 years of working in Romania to support young people with disabilities

The Comber Foundation celebrated 21 years of making a real and lasting difference to the lives of disabled and disadvantaged people in Romania by having a Dinner Dance on Saturday 16th June.

The Comber Foundation is a home grown charity, founded in 1991 in Comber, County Down, which seeks to improve the lives of disabled children and adults in Romania and Eastern Europe.  One of the many ways which the Comber Foundation practically improves lives is by forming group homes, these homes offer young adults with intellectual and physical disabilities the opportunity to live within a community, outside of an institution, for the very first time since birth.

John Daly was the MC at the Dinner Dance and he reflected on the success of the evening:

‘We have all had a great night here at the Dinner Dance, reflecting on all that the Comber Foundation has been able to achieve over the past 21 years and also looking forward to the crucial work that remains to be done.  I was delighted to be the MC at such a real celebration and to show my support for such a worthwhile cause.’

Fiona Dowling, Executive Director of the Comber Foundation, also commented on the Dinner Dance:

‘We at the Comber Foundation were delighted to be able to host an event which is such a positive celebration of our work over the past 21 years, whilst acknowledging the work that remains to be done in the future.  We are very proud of all that our volunteers and donors have achieved and felt that they really deserved to be celebrated.’

The Dinner Dance proved to be a great night’s entertainment for everyone, with the ‘Dress to Impress’ dress code, John Daly as our brilliant MC, swing music and even swing dancers helping to kick off the festivities!

The Comber Foundation would like to thank all those involved in the Dinner Dance, without whose help the night would not have been such a success.  Special thanks to all who donated raffle prizes- including McCalls, Seymour Dugans and Jenny Bond Interiors.
