Residential Youth Worker (Australia)

Any successful applicant will be able to complete some training within either the UK or in the ROI.

Safe Places will help with relocation, VISA requirements and will support the successful applicant to obtain the relevant police checks prior to commencing or traveling for employment to Australia

Position Title: Residential Youth Worker (Australia)

Annual Salary: Starting at $69,192 (GBP approx. £34,500) up to $88,824 (GBP approx. £44,500) for youth worker stream employees. (Based on experience, qualifications and demonstrated ability within the role).

Employment Type: Full Time Position

Reports To: Case Manager

Current Priority Locations: Bunbury (Western Australia) and, Cairns, Townsville and Toowoomba (Queensland)

Required Weekly Hours:

  • Average 38 shift hours and 2 sleepovers per week (averaged over 6 weeks). Overtime is managed by an Hours Bank system which can be paid out or taken as time back.

Shift Patterns:

  • A regular shift is 24 hours long. It consists of 16 hours awake working time and 8 hours paid sleepover period (Included in Salary).
  • Shift Patterns: Three Shifts (One Week) and Two Shifts (Second Week).
  • Opportunity to work additional shifts and seek pay out of additional hours.

Position Requirements 

  • A minimum 2 years’ full time experience working with challenging behaviours such as verbal and physical aggression preferably in a residential setting and within the last 5 years.
  • A Degree Level Qualification in Social Work, Youth Work or a Degree in a Relevant Subject Field would be desirable, but essentially the Minimum Qualification Requirement would be a Level 4 Diploma (In a Relevant Subject Field).  
  • Ability to do shift work (Approx. 5 shifts a fortnight for full time staff), and sleeping sleepovers (All shifts have a sleepover component) 
  • Must have a full clean UK or Republic of Ireland Driver’s License for at least 12 months
  • Able to obtain the necessary International Police Check and any associated Area Police Check’s & Statutory State Check Requirements for the specific state that you will be employed within Australia.
  • Able to obtain the required VISA requirements before entry into Australia and to have the right to work for Safe Places for Children in Australia.
  • Certain criteria must be met in regard to the VISA requirements, this will be dependent on either a 417  or two year sponsorship on a 482 VISA type.
