You will work to promote a better understanding of dementia across communities in order to reduce stigma and discrimination and promote independence for people living with dementia.

Alzheimer’s Society is the UK’s leading support and research charity for people with dementia, their families and carers. There are 850,000 people with dementia in the UK and numbers are set to rise to over 1 million by 2025.

This is a part-time role working within the ground-breaking Dementia Friendly Communities team. We are delivering Dementia Friendly Community models across Northern Ireland to support people to live well with dementia, increase awareness about dementia and support communities to include people with dementia and recognise their contribution.

You will be facilitating Dementia Friendly Community steering groups across Northern Ireland. You will work in consultation with people with dementia and carers to inform and monitor the steering groups. You will work to promote a better understanding of dementia across communities in order to reduce stigma and discrimination and promote independence for people living with dementia.

You will have oversight of the membership of the Steering Groups and to ensure good relationships with and co-ordination of all Steering Group members.

As such, you will be responsible and accountable for the quality of local dementia friendly community steering groups, including the management of membership, organisation of meetings, minute taking and oversight of actions.

You will establish systems for monitoring and evaluating the work of the steering groups and source opportunities for new or ongoing funding.

You are a self-starter, highly motivated and have great communication skills.
