Contact a Family is a national charity for families with disabled children. We provide information, advice and support, and bring families together so they can support each other.

The Me Myself I & Us Programme is a five year project funded by the Big Lottery Fund.  The project is due to end December 2020. It aims to make a real difference to the lives of family carers, including parents and siblings, involved in caring for a child with a disability and / or life-limiting condition through one-to-one mentoring and the delivery of a range of personal development solutions aimed at improving the physical, emotional, mental and holistic wellbeing of family carers. This unique project will be delivered across Northern Ireland bringing together a range of partners drawn from the community and voluntary sector, and statutory heath trusts. 

Your Role:

Under the direction of the Contact A Family Northern Ireland Manager and working as part of a close knit, dynamic and highly motivate team, the post-holder will be responsible for delivering tailored responses to meeting the needs of family carers. The job will include assisting with the delivery of all aspects of the Me Myself I & Us project; organising and delivering training programmes/ workshops; contributing to internal reporting, monitoring and evaluation; assisting with the development of strategy/action plans; working with families, community and voluntary organisations, and statutory bodies in a designated Trust area. 

What we are looking for:

Applicants will be responsible for delivering tailored responses to meeting the needs of family carers. Applicants must have:

  • A Level 2/3 certificate/diploma in a relevant field i.e. Health and Social Care, Children and Young Peoples Workforce etc, and at least two years' recent experience working with children, young people and adults in any of the following environments: children's home, nurseries, family community centres, mental health services or youth projects. (This list is not exhaustive, you may feel that your experience is relevant but you must demonstrate how).

or

  • A minimum of five years' experience working with children, young people and adults in any of the environments listed above.

and

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including presentational skills.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with an ability to communicate sensitively and empathetically with both adults and children with understanding and patience.
  • Ability to stay calm under pressure.
  • Ability to manage, plan and prioritise workload.
  • Ability to work reliably on own initiative.
  • Good team working skills.
  • Competence in the use of a range of IT packages e.g. MS Office / word, databases, Excel, as well as effective use of email, e-marketing, and searching out quality information on the internet etc.
