Worker and Employee Owned Co-operatives - The Future of Work?
This is the third event of the series 'The Transformational Power of Co-operatives'. The webinar series explores what co-operatives can offer and how their development can be supported. Co-operatives are a vehicle for transforming local economic development – a business model that allows people and communities to meet their needs and aspirations. Co-operatives offer a unique answer to contemporary problems – a space where solidarity and mutual aid are valued, and where economic pursuits are embedded within considerations of the communities and the planet in which we live.

This webinar is about 'work' and how co-operatives can offer alternatives models and solutions in our precarious environment.

The concept of a worker owned co-operative is still unfamiliar. We often think about the standard management and labour structure. Times are changing, and now just might be the time to consider something different.

The webinar will explain the advantages of worker co-operatives, local case studies presented by researcher Ellie Perrin who has extensively studied workers co-ops in Northern Ireland and currently a PhD Researcher in the University of Liverpool.

In addition, Andrew Harrison from Co-ownership Solutions, a specialist practitioner in the field of employee-ownership, will introduce employee-owned models and the advantages of considering those in succession plans, with case studies across UK.  This is practical session that will give 'food for thoughts' to anyone considering how to plan for an employee owned conversion.

The webinars are for anyone involved in economic and community development and for people interested in hearing first-hand experiences from new emerging co-ops in Northern Ireland and beyond. We welcome policy makers and Government and Council officials involved in economic development, regeneration and business support. This series is also aimed to any activists and co-operators who may want to set up alternative models to answer the needs of their communities, their enterprises or being inspired by local co-operators.

This is an ONLINE Webinar. Please register your details at https://coop-alternatives-webinars-2020.eventbritestudio.com/ and we will send you a Zoom link.
