A presentation followed by Q&A by Lord Justice Gillen who is heading the Review of Civil and Family Justice in Northern Ireland.

In September 2015, the Lord Chief Justice announced the launch of a Review of Civil and Family Justice, led by Lord Justice Gillen.

The aim of the Review is to look at current procedures for the administration of civil and family justice with a view to:

  • Improving access to justice;
  • Achieving better outcomes for court users, particularly for children and young people;
  • Creating a more responsive and proportionate system;
  • Making better use of available resources, including through the use of new technologies and greater opportunities for digital working.

Views on the Family Justice Report and the Civil Justice Report compiled by the review team are requested by Friday 28th October and Friday 9th December respectively. The reports are available to view here.

Lord Justice Gillen will be presenting on the findings in these reports and participating in a Q&A on Monday 28th November from 2pm-4pm. This event is open to all voluntary and community sector organisations with an interest in civil and family justice and the objectives of the review.

If you would like more information on the review, NICVA’s Detail Data project published an interview with Justice Gillen which is available here. Detail Data also published ‘Inside Northern Ireland’s Family Courts’ in April 2016 which focused on some of the primary issues faced in family justice.
