Helping Others Manage Trauma

Cruse Bereavement Support NI

Cruse Bereavement Support NI

Cost: Free

This free day event will look at how trauma affects people and ways that you can support others; whether they are family, friends or people in the community to manage it. It will provide a chance for you to learn more about the impact of traumatic events

We have invited Brid Keenan to talk at this event. Brid Keenan is a Gestalt psychotherapist, supervisor and trainer and a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner and NARM Practitioner working with the impact of trauma on individuals, families and communities. Brid will use her extensive experience to talk on the subject of Trauma, the impacts of trauma and how you can help yourself and others in the aftermath of traumatic events.

We will also be hear from Cruse Bereavement Care. ‪Siobhan McHaffie is the Manager of the Victims & Survivors Service project within Cruse Bereavement Care NI.  She is also a qualified counsellor, and has worked in the voluntary sector for the past 5 years. Siobhan will be delivering a presentation on Traumatic Bereavement. This will be an introduction-level approach to aid understanding of bereavement and trauma, and how the two factors can impact on those affected. The presentation will provide an overview of what traumatic loss is, how it differs from a normal grief reaction, and the impact it has on the bereaved and their family. Understanding these differences is critical for anyone who is in a caring and supportive role.
