A training workshop for any charity, sports club or society running fundraising raffles, ballots or lotteries in Northern Ireland. Is your lottery, ballot or raffle legal? Does it follow good practice?

One of the most common methods of fundraising in Northern Ireland is also one of the least understood in relation to the law and best practice. It is easy to fall foul of the legislation that dates from 1985 when you run a small raffle, ballot, lottery or tombola - or any similar game of chance.

This course outlines how to run legal and profitable lotteries whether it is a small exempt lottery, private lottery of society lottery. You will get information on the registration and renewal process and learn the information that has to be on the ticket.

You will see examples of other lotteries that a run in Northern Ireland - both those registered and seemingly unregistered - those that a legal and potentially illegal.

You will learn how to recognise what makes a society lottery illegal in Northern Ireland - and as much as possible see how you can use the fundraising method to increase your fundraising income.

With the onus falling on charities to self-regulate fundraising this course guides you on following the Code of Practice and will give your trustees confidence your lottery fundraising does not pose a compliance risk for your committee and trustees.
