Make the most of your family’s time (& money!) this February half term, by taking a trip to WWT Castle Espie. With a host of fun activities planned and endless opportunities to discover more about the natural world, our award-winning wetland reserve

and visitor centre has something to keep the whole brood entertained

Habitat Creation Weekend (Saturday 11th & Sunday 12th February 10.30-4.30pm) - learn the fine art of building a luxury mini insect hotel for your little beasties in the garden. You will be surprised how many of the materials you already have lying around your garden & house.  The Ulster Wildlife Trust will be visiting to share their expertise on how to build bamboo bug houses and bird nesting material dispensers.

Everything’s Going Quackanory  (17th,18, 19, 20 February 11am, 12.30pm, 2pm & 3.30pm)  -  Fun stories about the animal kingdom from mice to whales from the funniest storyteller in the history of storytelling. Crafts from 11-4pm: make a bird, butterfly, or moth and race them against each other. For those of a more reflective/bookish nature - why not make a simple ‘birdy’ book mark.

Bird Box Building Workshop (18th & 19th February 12 - 4pm) Have a late celebration of St Valentine’s Day at Castle Espie by building a nest box for your loving garden birds and get them off to a flying start this year. February is the time of year when most of our garden birds are pairing off and on the look out for nesting sites so let’s all give them a helping hand and make them a nest box. The workshop is suitable for all ages from toddlers to the retired. If you would like to keep your bird box a small charge of £5 will be applied to cover the cost of the materials. http://www.wwt.org.uk/visit-us/castle-espie/things-to-see-and-do/events-calendar/2012/02/18/bird-box-building-workshop/

Duck tales - What whistles and doesn't quack? Find out more about the fascinating birds in our captive collection. A perfect time to witness our birds when their plumage is at its best. (Every Saturday and Sunday at 12noon & 2pm).

Birdwatch Morning (Thursday 23rd February 10.30am) Join Dot Blakely our resident expert, to find out more about birds in and around the grounds. Everyone welcome, but as any of the regulars will tell you, if you come out for a birdwatch walk with Dot, it might take longer then an hour, you might see or hear birds in the woods that you didnt know about, and you will really enjoy your lunch when you get back to the centre.

All events are included in the cost of admission.
