The development of firmus energy’s natural gas network across the province began in 2005 with Michelin, Ballymena as our first commercial natural gas customer. Since then we have invested over £77m building our network, laid over 770km of mains pipes across Northern Ireland, have connected over 18,000 domestic and commercial customers including hundreds of Northern Ireland’s largest manufacturers, private housing, Housing Executive properties, schools, hospitals and small businesses.

In doing so, we have successfully delivered against our unique oil price commitment to be cheaper than oil for domestic customers in our network area. And because we also supplying natural gas in the greater Belfast area, homes can switch to cheaper natural gas from firmus energy. Over 33,000 homes and businesses have switched from Airtricity NI to firmus energy for cheaper gas AND great customer service.

At firmus energy, our ambition is simple - to be Northern Ireland’s first choice energy provider. We were the first energy company in Northern Ireland to introduce online billing for business and domestic natural gas customers, the first to offer a commitment to be cheaper than oil* and the first company to provide competition to homes and businesses in the greater Belfast gas market. We also hold an electricity supply licence and are currently the only energy company offering ‘dual fuel’ contracts to Industrial customers across Northern Ireland. And we’ve done all this without one single stage two Consumer Council complaint - an unprecedented record for any utility in Northern Ireland.
