VIEWdigital co-founder among 100 inspiring women

The WISE 100 recognise 100 of the most inspiring and influential women in social enterprise, impact investment and social innovation. More than 250 women were nominated and a panel selected the first 100 women who will be part of the new network.

Brian Pelan, co-founder at VIEWdigital, said:  “We at VIEWdigital are delighted that Una has been included in the new WISE 100 network of inspiring women. It is a marvellous recognition of her work establishing VIEWdigital as a social enterprise more than three years ago.”

In the UK, 40 percent of social enterprises are led by women and organisers said the WISE 100 initiative “will help to inspire other sectors to diversify their workforce, bringing benefits not just to women but to business”.

 A spokeswoman added: “It’s now an established fact that organisations with the most gender diversity outperform those with the least.”

The first WISE100 women were announced at a special celebration event in London in mid-October, at which gender inequality in the workplace was discussed.  Peer-to-peer support among women in social enterprise will be one of the aims of the new network of women.

The new initiative will be brought to Westminster by Baroness Glenys Thornton, outgoing CEO of the Young Foundation.

Baroness Thornton, formerly the Labour Party’s spokeswoman on Equalities and Women’s Issues, said: “I’m leaving the Young Foundation to go back into parliament and I intend to make the all-party group on social enterprise one of my priorities when I get back there. And I also intend to ensure we pick up this mantle of the WISE100 and women in social enterprise in parliament. That’s very important to me.”
