New Shared Community Building in Dungannon - Public Consultation

STEP along with South Tyrone Borough Council and a local community consortium are seeking the views of the local community on a new proposed Shared Space project for Dungannon (Shared Space Community Building, Park Links and Castlehill Tower)

Background to project

STEP plans to build a shared community building to meet the needs of the various communities in Dungannon. Over the past three years we have explored and consulted on various concepts, locations, services and facilities which are needed.  Following a public consultation meeting last year, we agreed was to work in partnership with the district council on a wider Peace-building project and make a joint application to Peace III which would include the shared community space between Milltown and Ballysaggart. The partnership project has three strands:

  • The sharedCommunityBuildinglocated on the interface between Milltown and Ballysaggart. (STEP led)
  • Interpretive Centre & andPeaceTowerlocated on the historic Castle Hill site (Council led)
  • Pathways; linking the town neighbourhoods to the two centres with safe and accessible walkways. (Council)

The project has passed several stages and is now in a list of projects in line for potential funding.  This has all taken some time so we now want to be sure that we are still meeting the group needs identified and that people are still ‘on board’ and give those who have not been part of the process to date to have their say.

If you live/work within one mile radius of Dungannon Town or if you work within a group or organisation who may utilise the shared community space in the future, we would appreciate your help by completing the questionnaire attached or by visiting http://www.stepni.org/news.asp?newsid=42.

We will also be holding two public consultation sessions:

Tuesday 21st February,  2.00 -  3 .00pm, Dungannon Leisure Centre  Minor Hall, Dungannon

Wednesday 22nd February 7. 30pm - 8. 30pm Community Relations Council,Ballygawley Road, Dungannon
