Consumer Council Launches New Current Account Comparison Resource

The Consumer Council is launching a new current account comparison table to help consumers compare products currently available from banking providers in Northern Ireland.

Speaking about this new resource, John French, Chief Executive of the Consumer Council said “43% of consumers have told us they either don’t know or wouldn’t feel confident about comparing different current accounts. This is preventing consumers from shopping around and according to the Competition and Markets  Authority, potentially saving on average £66 per year. Our new comparison table helps consumers to do just that.

“We would encourage everybody to compare the range of bank accounts available to them to ensure they are getting the best overall deal and the service to meet their individual needs. The banking comparison table also provides information about how you can access your bank.”

John added “Consumers shouldn’t be put off switching for fear of things going wrong. The Current Account Switching Service makes switching accounts between banks and building societies simple, reliable and stress-free. The switch will be completed in seven working days and your new bank or building society will take care of moving all your incoming and outgoing payments. If anything does go wrong, the Current Account Switch Guarantee entitles you to compensation.”
