The Youth Participation and Advocacy Sessional Worker will be engaged on a consultancy basis for six months to support the work of CLC's youth participation and advocacy project.

The Children’s Law Centre (CLC) uses Children’s Rights to change children’s lives. CLC provides a free legal advice and legal representation service, children’s rights training and engages in policy work on behalf of and in consultation with children and young people in NI.

CLC’s Youth Participation and Advocacy Project supports a youth advisory panel - youth@clc and other young people to have their say on key areas of law and policy impacting on their everyday lives.  

The role of the YPASW will be to support youth@clc's participation in CLC's ongoing youth advocacy projects to include:

  • Recruit new youth@clc members aged 15 – 17 
  • Support and facilitate fortnightly meetings with youth@clc  (will include evenings and some weekends as required)
  • To support youth@clc’s participation in the development of a digital information and advice service for young people – a legal chatbot developed by young people for young people 
  • Work with CLC’s Training Coordinator, legal team and youth@clc to identify the legal information needs of NI young people aged 13 – 17 across a range of areas of law
  • Build the capacity of youth@clc members to advocate on children’s rights issues
  • Support youth@clc’s participation in external youth advocacy campaign work to include:
    • Youth engagement events with decision makers and other youth forums on current issues impacting on children’s lives with a particular focus on Brexit and youth led mental health campaign work
  • Support youth@clc to participate in ongoing CLC policy work e.g. Impact of Brexit on the lives of children and young people in NI and Mental Health
