BHCP is an umbrella organisation representing a range of community organisations in the Creevagh Springtown Wards of the City. Our aim is to provide a strategic partnership approach to responding to the needs of residents through effective services.

Youth Outreach Worker x 2

 

REF: BHCP/JAN2018/YOW

 

Salary Scale: (NJC 14-17) £17,237.39 per annum pro-rata

Hours: 8 hours per week (8.96 per hour)

Tenure: Fixed Term Contract (ending February 2018)

 

Youth Outreach Workers will work on behalf of BHCP to engage with and ascertain the needs of young people in the Ballymagroarty, Hazelbank and wider area. They will work with young people who may or may not be attracted to current provision and develop and co-ordinate a prevention/intervention programme involving young people. They will target those young people who are most marginalised in the area and create a planned, innovative response to their needs in consultation with them.

 

Essential Criteria

 

  • A minimum of 1 years experience working with young people in a community or youth work setting.
  • Child Protection training desirable.
  • The ability to work flexible and unsociable hours.

 

Banking Staff -Youth Outreach Workers

 

BHCP will also be drawing up a list of Banking Staff for the Youth Outreach Worker positions for the next 12 months. Candidates should meet the same criteria, as that outlined above.

 

The above criteria may be enhanced to facilitate shortlisting.

 

Job Summary: To work on behalf of BHCP to engage with and ascertain the needs of young people in the Ballymagroarty, Hazelbank and wider area who may or may not be attracted to current provision and develop and co-ordinate a prevention/intervention programme involving young people.

 

To target those who are most marginalised in the area and create a planned, innovative response to their needs in consultation with them.

 

An action plan will be drawn up in liaison with the young people and other agencies to ensure a co-ordinated and effective approach to meeting young peoples needs in the area.

 

  1. To initiate engagement with young people on the streets of Creevagh Springtown areas.

 

  1. To meet the young people on the streets (both individually and on a group basis) in order to discover needs and discuss ways of meeting them that young people find attractive.

 

  1. To signpost and encourage young people towards capacity building programmes and activities for young people in the target area.

 

  1. To provide listening support for young people and signpost them towards relevant support/help

 

  1. To seek and secure a resource package of financial and physical resources for young people in the area of benefit.

 

  1. To recruit local volunteers to assist in the project.

 

 

  1. To record all work and meetings with young people and to liaise with the co-ordinator about work and contact carried out.

 

  1. To attend training and regular staff meetings

 

  1. To liaise with statutory, voluntary and community providers of services.

 

  1. To provide one to one support and confidence building engagement for young people.

 

  1. To signpost young people to counselling services and other support services in the statutory and voluntary sector

 

  1. To encourage young people towards training opportunities for young people to become peer educators, youth workers etc.

 

  1. To liaise with Co-ordinator in addressing a range of health programmes for young people.

 

  1. To liaise with co-ordinator in developing programmes specifically addressing the needs of young people who are unemployed.

 

  1. To help create forums for young people who will link in with local services and youth outlets

 

  1. To maintain and develop programmes and increase activities such as youth exchanges.

 

  1. To monitor the needs of young people on a regular basis.

 

  1. To highlight and promote the work of young people and the youth setting.

 

  1. To carry out any other duties falling reasonably within the competence and capability of the post holder assigned by the Programme Co-ordinator or BHCP Board of Directors.
