Volunteer: Legacy Giving, Omagh

Alzheimer's Society

voluntary
Your support to the Legacy and Recognition Giving team will be vital in ensuring we can continue to raise money to support people affected by dementia, whilst providing the information and means for those wishing to leave a gift in their Will

In order to expand the work of the Society, so that even more people with dementia and their carers can be helped and supported, we need to raise funds. Leaving a legacy is one of the most effective ways to support our cause.

What will you be doing?

- Distributing information leaflets to a variety of solicitors

- Making appointments with funeral arrangers to enable the local Legacy worker to visit and talk about Alzheimer's Society and the need for support

- As above plus carry out meetings with funeral arrangers under the guidance and training of the Legacy and Recognition Officer

- Keeping in regular contact with funeral directors ensuring they have a regular supply of leaflets and envelopes as required

- Contacting funeral directors where there is an existing relationship, ensuring they are aware of our materials

- Keeping detailed records and responding to enquiries as appropriate under the supervision and guidance of the Legacy and Recognition Officer

- Helping to promote the importance of In Memoriam and Gifts in Wills in a sensitive manner to other appropriate internal and external audiences

- Helping and supporting the legacy marketing and In Memoriam events

Will this role be suitable for you?

No special qualifications/experience needed.  This is an ideal role for someone who:

- Has an interest in supporting people with dementia and their carers, families and friends

- Has good communication skills, demonstrating courtesy and integrity

- Can demonstrate empathy, tact and diplomacy

- Is professional, well organised and with an eye for detail

- Has good local knowledge and links

- Can volunteer with minimal supervision, but remains part of a dedicated team

- Is comfortable communicating with people from different backgrounds

- Is committed to the Society's expectations around values and behaviours

- Is prepared to compile short reports relating to their activity and contacts

- Understands that this is a volunteering role that is largely undertaken on an individual basis, rather than part of a group of volunteers

- Any local variations will be agreed with you before you start volunteering.

How will you be supported in this role?

This role is supported by the Legacy and Recognition Giving Officer.  Support levels can be agreed on an individual basis.

How much time will you need to give?

This is a very flexible role although we do hope for some continuity over a period of time to benefit the building of strong relationships.

How will you be supported?

- Relevant induction for the role

- Ongoing learning and development opportunities

- One-to-one and/or group based support

- Reimbursement of out-of-pocket expenses in line with the Society's policies
