We offer you the opportunity to join a diverse and committed Board of Directors working co-operatively at governance and strategic level.  This is an opportunity to join an organisation with a proven track record of innovation, advocacy and in providing and developing services for women and children experiencing domestic/sexual violence.  The Board of Directors consists of women from a range of backgrounds with diverse skills and experience, and work to meet challenges and opportunities in a changing environment.

The Board meets on a quarterly basis as a minimum, plus the Annual General Meeting (normally in November of each year). We request that members attend at least 90% of Board meetings per year (travel expenses can be reimbursed).  There may also be a requirement of sub-group meetings on occasion.

As a member of the Board of Directors a commitment to the ethos, aims, and objectives of Women’s Aid Armaghdown is essential.  Women’s Aid works to tackle domestic/sexual violence and abuse; our aim is to eliminate domestic/ sexual violence and to challenge the attitudes and beliefs which perpetuate it.  Our work is underpinned by an ethos of self-help and mutual support, for women, with women, by women.

We are an equal opportunities employer, which means that we are committed to providing equality of opportunity in employment to all persons.

Women’s Aid is a women only organisation and the lawful recruitment of females for this post falls within the exemption stated in Article 10 (2b & e) of the Sex Discrimination (N.I.) Order 1976.

We welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons. However, as Protestants or women from ethnic minority groups are currently under-represented on our Board of Directors, we would particularly like to receive applications from them.   All appointments will, however, be made on the basis of merit.

Women’s Aid is a medium sized charity with an annual income in excess of £700,000 and 32 employees plus bank workers and volunteers.  The finances of the organisation are managed by a competent and experienced CEO and Finance Manager.
