Support Volunteer to the My Life My Way Community Navigator - NEW ROLE

To provide support to the My Life My Way Community Navigator by supporting older people with dementia and their carers as they make decisions about future care and social inclusion options.

The My Life My Way scheme aims to promote the personal autonomy and decision making of hard to reach, older people with dementia who are isolated and at high risk of disempowerment. Our volunteers offer signposting and provide relevant information about care options and entitlements which will allow the individual with dementia or their carer to make better informed decisions. It is hoped this will empower older people who have been diagnosed with dementia as they gain improved personal choice, control and Influence over decisions about their care as they recognise their dignity they deserve as they continue to live life their way less lonely. Due to high demand, some service users may be placed on waiting list.

The Support volunteer will provide an interim, floating service, supporting our service users who are waiting to be matched with a longer term volunteer by;

  • Reducing isolation and loneliness by maintaining contact with service users in an interim period
  • Building Confidence to help with care provision
  • Supporting service users with any immediate needs
  • Reporting any concerns about service users
  • Supporting the My Life My Way Community Navigator


You will be; 

  • Able to build trusting and supportive relationships with older people with Dementia and their carers
  • Able to communicate well and be a good listener
  • Have common sense, be independent but also know when to seek support.
  • Sensitive with others and show empathy
  • Organised

As a volunteer, you will have the opportunity to;

This role will require an enhanced Access NI disclosure certificate and is only suitable for those 18+

Available in Belfast and Northern Health and Social Care Trust areas
