North Down and Ards Women's Aid exists to provide advice, support and refuge to women and their children who have experienced or are still experiencing the effects of physical, emotional or sexual violence and abuse.

We are recruiting a Crèche Worker and this post is subject to continued Sure Start/South Eastern Health & Social Care Trust funding.

 

Salary: £7.83 - this post is subject to continued Sure Start/SET funding.

Working Hours: 16 hours per week over 5 mornings – Monday to Friday

Annual Leave: 25 days per year rising to 30 days per year (pro rata) plus public holidays.

Pension: 4% employee contribution and 8% employer contribution

Location: Advice Centre and local community settings

 

Key responsibilities:

Responsibility for the planning and implementation of a childcare programme to meet the emotional, recreational and educational needs of a wide range of children living in the refuge and those attending our Women’s Aid centre and community settings. To provide a welcoming, safe environment and a high standard of care and support for children in our services.

 

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

  • Experience of working with children aged under four in childcare setting.

  • Experience in an early years setting.

  • Ability to promote the learning and development of children aged under four.

  • Contribute to creating a safe and stimulating environment that provides a wide range of age appropriate activities to enable children to reach their full potential.

  • Prepare activities and ensure play area is clean and set up prior to session and tidied and cleaned at end.

  • Knowledge of child development.

  • Knowledge and understanding of how children learn and develop.

  • Understanding the issues of domestic and sexual violence as experienced by Children and Young People.

  • Knowledge of and commitment to the work of North Down & Ards Women’s Aid.

  • IT - Working knowledge of Microsoft office.

  • NVQ Level 2 in Childcare or equivalent relevant qualification.

  • Safeguarding/Child protection certificate.

  • Car driver with access to car that allows candidate to fulfil duties of the post. (This criteria will be waived in the case of applicants whose disability prohibits driving but who have access to a form of transport approved by NDAWA, which will permit them to carry out the duties of the post.)

  • To be flexible regarding working hours – working to meet the needs and requirements of the programme and available for once a month Monday afternoon team meetings.

Due to the level of contact with vulnerable women and children, the lawful recruitment of females for this post falls within the exemption stated in Article 10 (e) of the Sex Discrimination (N.I.) Order 1976.

In order to comply with the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups (Northern Ireland) Order 2007, North Down & Ards Women’s Aid are required to explore the successful candidate’s suitability to work with vulnerable adults and children through enhanced ACCESS NI pre-employment screening.
