We now have an opportunity for a Centre Assistant/Groom to join our dedicated team at The Donkey Assisted Therapy Centre, Belfast, supporting the Centre Manager and Centre Instructors in the effective running of the centre.

For more than 40 years, The Donkey Sanctuary has provided donkey assisted therapy for children in the UK and overseas. Over the past four decades the programme has evolved to cater for users with emotional and cognitive needs as well as physical. Children with physical, social and behavioural difficulties gain confidence, improved life skills and a sense of achievement from our interaction programme. Our donkeys, many of whom have been rescued from a life of neglect, mistreatment or abandonment, gain a new and rewarding life engaging with lots of people.

We now have an opportunity for a Centre Assistant/Groom to join our dedicated team at The Donkey Assisted Therapy Centre, Belfast, supporting the Centre Manager and Centre Instructors in the effective running of the centre.

Possessing equine, stable management and animal husbandry experience, you will feed, groom and care for our donkeys in the stable, riding areas and in the pasture, maintaining a high standard of cleanliness throughout. You will be involved with the training and preparation of donkeys selected for the programme, and will assist with donkey assisted learning and life skill development activities with vulnerable children and adults, both at the centre and as part of our outreach service. As the centre receives a large number of visitors you will promote the work of the charity, and will be friendly, knowledgeable and courteous to all who visit. A flexible attitude, good communication and IT skills and a full Driving Licence are essential.

This is full-time, permanent contract starting as soon as possible. 37.5 hours per week, Tuesday 08.00-16.30, Wednesday 08.00-17.30, Thursday 08.00-17.30, Friday 08.00-16.30, and the 2nd and 4th Saturdays and Sundays of each month 16.00-22.00. The post holder will be required to stay at the centre overnight following the weekend shifts.
