Carer and Family Support Manager

Two Year Fixed Term Contract

Service provided across Northern Ireland. Office base to be confirmed on appointment.

MindWise has been offering specialist services to carers and families of people with severe mental illness for a number of years. The service provides the carers and family of those experiencing severe mental illness and mental health difficulties with a support network in their local area. The service includes home visits, one to one meetings, group meetings, assistance with Carer Assessments, education, training and information on all aspects of caring. Carers can be signposted to the service through existing MindWise services; statutory services such as CMHT’s, GP’s or can self-refer to the services available.

The Manager will be responsible for:

• Developing and implementing the MindWise Carers Strategy

• Developing an implementation program with key stakeholders across NI to effectively embed and engage Carers programs in our services and wider communities to meet the identified needs.

• Developing relationships across NI (internally at management level and externally with partner organisations and potential commissioners)

• Supporting and engaging with the carers of those attending our existing MindWise services across the five Trust areas

• Supporting and developing the MindWise Carers Support services and enhance the programme of support already on offer in the two existing Trust areas

• Integrating the Think Family approach into our operations across NI

• Developing in consultation with the existing MindWise service users and carers condition specific support groups for Dementia, Personality Disorder.

• Supporting confidence and capacity building with those accessing the service in order to increase peer lead initiatives and develop a peer lead SUPER Carers Network across NI. (SUPER – Service User Participation and Engagement)

• Providing information and guidance to carers on the wide range of community support that is available to them.

• Creating activism amongst carers and their families through the development and provision of sustainable volunteering initiatives at local and regional level

• Creating a sustainable peer lead infrastructure to maintain the service into the future

The line management and support of the Carers Support staff.
