Barnardo's Family Learning and Integration Project has been funded by the Big Lottery Fund since 2015 to deliver support to Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic Families (BAME) in two South Belfast Primary Schools.

The project in partnership with the schools has developed a range of interventions that are designed to encourage learning and integration for families who are new to Northern Ireland.

Interventions include:

  • Family / Individual Support
  • Parent Groups - to develop and enhance integration
  • Parent and Infant Programmes
  • Volunteering opportunities
  • Work with fathers
  • Language Made Fun and Language Together.  A tailored linguistic support programme for individual and small groups of primary aged children which is delivered in partnership with the University of Ulster.

Do you want to see more fathers actively engaged in their children's learning and in the communities they live in?

Do you love working with people?

If so, then this opportunity may be for you -

This role requires you to work in the community and school setting with fathers and male carers in order to address the barriers to families supporting their children's education and to provide opportunities for men in the BAME community to engage in the wider community through volunteering, and support to access local services.

The successful candidate will be required to develop a range of activities to engage BAME males and support fathers to be more involved in the education of their children and integrated into the local community.  This will involve group and individual work with fathers and children.  Most of the interventions will take place between 9am - 5pm Monday to Friday however some flexibility will be required for evening and occasional weekend work.

Whilst the main focus of this roll is to support fathers and male carers, you will work with a team to develop the service in the schools and to encourage the men to attend other interventions.

When making your application please refer to the additional information sheet.
