ODI Belfast, part of the Open Data Institute’s global Node network, was formed in 2015 and is run by the Northern Ireland Council for Voluntary Action (NICVA).

We provide a local linkage to the fantastic expertise and resources of the ODI. ODI Belfast are committed to developing the economic, social and environmental benefits of open data throughout all of Northern Ireland.

The Open Data Institute was founded in 2012 by Sir Tim Berners-Lee – inventor of the World Wide Web – and Sir Nigel Shadbolt – a Professor of Artificial Intelligence at the University of Southampton.

ODI Nodes create open data impact globally and ensure open data is for everyone.

As a Node, we have adopted the ODI Charter. The charter is an open source summary of the principles and rules which the ODI uses to develop open data impact.

All Nodes are engaged in communicating open data stories, and helping to develop and deliver standards, processes and tools that are of use to the whole community.

ODI Belfast is a Learning and Network Node

  • Learning nodes provide workshops, events and training with ODI Registered Trainers.
  • Network nodes bring together communities. They host events, produce open data case studies and help promote understanding of open data in their localities around the world.
